i double dog dare you...

Dear Friend,

I was reading this morning and I came across this quote. It was spoken within the context of confession.

It says,
The well-known pastor Haddon Robinson begins almost every sermon with the same brief confession: “God, if these people knew about me what you know about me, they wouldn’t listen to a word I said.”

I wonder what would happen if more pastors (of both big and small churches) began their sermons like pastor Robinson…

And so, like only a 4th grader can do…I dare you, if you’re a pastor (the preaching/teaching kind), to start your sermon this next Sunday like pastor Robinson. No wait! I double dog dare you! Yeah, I just went there.

paradise bakery church???

I was having breakfast this morning at Paradise Bakery & Café. I like that place a lot. I am relatively new to the morning culture. I normally just stay home, but recently, I have been getting out more. I’ve only been going to this bakery for the past couple of months. They have lots of breakfast choices that make my belly very happy.

So I was sitting at a booth by myself -- just people watching. The people that you see in the morning are so much different than the ones you see at night or in the afternoon. Because of this, I have been trying to figure out what makes them so different…anyways...

As I was enjoying the people and the breakfast, I noticed this big sign.

After reading it…and re-reading it, I began to think about the church while I was staring at the purpose statement of this bakery.

I’m willing to bet that you have heard of a church a time or two say something similar to this before. Haven’t you? It just seems like on a very simple level this sign conveys the goal of the church in America today. I mean really, what church doesn’t want a person to have a special experience? Or, what church doesn’t want more people to come? Please know that I’m not saying ‘all’ churches. To be honest, I was thinking more about the modern church but this could apply to any kind of church I guess.

Assuming this statement echoes that of your church or a church that you know of, I couldn’t help but wonder (not sarcastically) who accomplishes this goal better -- a church or this bakery?

hmmmm...
