Finding Never Never Land

Before I loved to read, and write so much I had another passion. It was basketball. I would spend hours (literally) in the gym just shooting and dribbling. I often times think back to some of those moments in an empty gym. Those were deep times, times where many thoughts, ideas, and dreams came to life. I guess in some ways you could call my time on a basketball court as my time in Never Never Land. It was as if I never grew up when I was playing basketball. And when I wasn't alone I could be found goofing around with my "lost boys."

Well, years have past and my beer belly has begun to show and even though those hours where I once could be found on a basketball court are now spent reading or writing, I have found my way back...back to Never Never Land. About two months ago I joined a city of Scottsdale basketball league with some old "lost boys" who, like me, have since grown up.

This league has been great because it has shown me the way back to Never Never Land. It has allowed me, once again, to get into an empty gym with my basketball in hand and just play...just like a little child. And the "lost boys"...we can't forget about them. We have fun together. We play and reminisce of our old battles together.

It's amazing how an old story can either make you feel older or younger...and I'm learning that this particular aging process is just a matter of your own choice.

So I'm going to drive down to a gym in a couple of hours...and I'm going to play basketball with some "lost boys" in Never Never Land.
