Smuckers
This is kinda of embarrassing to admit, but one of my favorite things to do in the morning is to watch The Today Show. I don't know why...but I just can't get enough of it.
There is this one segment of the show each day where Willard Scott celebrates people who have either turned 100 years old or are celebrating their 75th wedding anniversary. It has forever been sponsored by Smuckers. Do you know which part of the show I am talking about?? Willard always reads a quote from the people as to why/who they credit their longevity to. And it seems like each person always credits their longevity to their faith in God...or to their reading of the bible each day...or to going to church.
Well this morning as I was watching the Smuckers portion of the show I couldn't help but wonder why/who my generation will credit to their longevity of either life or marriage??? Maybe people will credit the likes of Gandhi, Joseph Smith, luck, or maybe even themselves. But it certainly won't be God, or the bible, or the church as much as these old people right?
Does this thought make anyone else feel kinda strange (not so much sad...but strange)??

Wow, that has always been my favorite part of the show as well, I watch it almost every morning...
I was thinking about your question... And strange meaning it is unfamiliar or unusual is exactly how I would describe the feeling. How often do we hear (now a days) anything attributed to God, for something good in their lives anyway? And it is sad, that those values could skip a generation?
But do you think that many of our generation will live to be that old? Honestly... I don't know? As much as the youth of the nation rebukes God.
There is so much education being learned but it is all without values. It might be taught with a lot of feeling, and emotion for a subject but it has so little reason. How much life can one live if there are no values to make it worth living for? How much life is worth living if it is all about yourself?
Maybe I'm in a cynical kind of mood today, or I have just been thinking too much about the '08 elections... but whatever happens may praise be to God.
That is strange to think about. I wonder if family will even make the cut or if ant-aging remedies and diet exercise regimens may even trump Ghandi? Although I hear a lot of Smucker's 100 year's attributed to "staying active." Or maybe faith, hope and love will take over and our generation (or maybe the one after) will give credit to the community of people who happened to know Jesus who they ended up belonging to who took care of them even before they were old? Just a thought...
Maybe they'll attribute it to Smuckers.
Okay, so I'm in that cynical mood today, too.
